Transition Wardrobe Staples: Summer to Fall

by: Danielle Ternyila

Take a peek at 5 looks that will make sense in your closet today, this fall, and all year round. Most of these come in various colors, but they all have one thing in common: these outfits are going to last you years and support you season to season! The quality of this active-athliesure wear and versatility in styles and fits means you will never stop loving them.

Each outfit can be customized with a few different color options, or you can just go with the recommendations I’ve laid out to make your shopping experience the simplest. You can click to shop my styles in the US and Canada here, or visit the new virtual Australian boutique!

I am available for assistance with sizing or just placing orders if you need help! You can just send me a quick message here to get started. There are many tools at my disposable to help size you properly for everything from our leggings to sports bras.

Tropical Vibes

Pair the Summer Shorts with a Havana Tank in your choice color, or I recommend these two pairings below! This is a super light weight and sweat wicking outfit for the summer, and the sewn in seams of these shorts and anti-wrinkle design make them ideal for packing in your luggage.

This outfit can also double as swimwear as the summer ends or on your next paradise vacay! The shorts have an inner panty liner and are quick dry after a dip. The Havana Tank not only looks cool, but it feels cool! The ventilation enhances the breathability of this tank, and it adds a unique stripe design that even looks cute under another layer, like a denim jacket on those colder autumn days.

Gray Code Havana Tank – recommend true-to-size
Lavender Summer Shorts – recommend true-to-size or size up one for a more relaxed look

Simple Denim Chic

These Light Denim Distressed Light N Tight leggings can withstand anything your busy day will throw at them, and you will look styling everywhere from the grocery store running errands to going out with the girlfriends for the night, and even stopping at the gym in between it all. The Light N Tights are our most compressive legging, but the distressed denim style makes for a chic look, especially paired with a flattering Parallel Tank. Any color would look great with the distressed blues, but my favorite is Brick red. It stands out, it shows you are bold, and you’re not afraid to stand out!

The sweat wicking material of the leggings is perfect in the summer heat, then you can just toss on more layers as it gets colder out! A denim jacket or solid open-front cardigan will make this a fall-friendly outfit too. The inseam on the pair I recommend (below) is 28″ across all sizes, so if you’re a petite like me (4-ft 11-in), you might prefer the Denim Artist Pocket that comes in at a 24″ inseam, the perfect full length on us shorties!

Light Denim Distressed Light N Tight Hi-Rise 28″ – intentionally compressive, recommend true-to-size
Brick Parallel Tank – fitted construction, recommend true-to-size or size up one for more relaxed fit

High Performance-High Fashion

Metallic Light N Tights fit similar to the above distressed denim Light N Tights, but these feature a unique glimmering tint to the bold and solid colors that really takes any outfit up a notch! This outfit can be completed in so many ways in combination with the Swirl Tank and a Bomber Bra. The beautifully detailed and breathable mesh back of this bra fits perfectly with the high neckline of our Swirl Tanks in front with a low swirl design in the back; this lets the tank drape over your hips in a relaxed and flattering way without drawing attention to your torso.

This is a great summer look with sandals or heels, but you can start adding layers like a cardigan, denim jacket, or blazer to dress this look up more for the fall and colder nights.

Black Metallic Light N Tight Hi-Rise 24″ – intentionally compressive, recommend true-to-size
Midnight Swirl Tank – relaxed fit, recommend true-to-size
Ivory Leopard Bomber Bra – medium-level support and a unique design, recommend true-to-size

Lazy Weekend In

Do you want to be as comfortable in your favorite joggers at home, but you also don’t want to sweat to death in the summer wearing them? Zyia cut the Relaxation Sweats in half and designed this incredible line of sweat shorts! With 2 deep pockets and luxuriously soft fabric, these drawstring-style shorts will be your new favorite at-home pair. You can complete the look with the matching Relaxation Hoodie, or another classic from the shop: our Kettle Moon Tank! It is the softest tank you’ll ever feel, so it is the perfect match for the Relaxation Shorts.

You don’t need much else to complete this cozy must-have summer to fall look, just a pair of slippers or crocs, depending on your mood! I personally wouldn’t do crocs, but I know some people find them comfy for just hanging around or running errands.

Pine Relaxation Sweat Shorts – Encased elastic, recommend true-to-size
Prism Kettle Moon Tank – four-way stretch material, recommend true-to-size

Bonus! Once the warm summer months are truly behind, you can invest in the Relaxation Pocket Hoodie to match and keep you even warmer, or go for the full set with the Relaxation Sweats too! Once you get one, you’ll want them all.

Edgy Base for Layering

Slash Luxe leggings are buttery soft and constructed to flatter every body type with an encased elastic up top to keep the leggings in place. They are gently compressive, so many customers prefer to size down 1 for a more fitted look. And don’t worry about your skin popping out the edges! This fabric will not do that to you! You can pair it with a Stronger Tank (size up 1 for a relaxed fit!), and that’s all you need as a base outfit that could stand on its own too! I’d strongly recommend spending the extra money on one of our more unique designs too, like the Black Leopard Reflective Hi-Neck Stronger Tank (in direct light, it will become reflective, or otherwise show as a black-shaded leopard tank to layer under anything this fall or year round!

Add a cardigan or light jacket as it gets colder this fall. A simple pair of sneakers and a flannel could easily complete this set, or it stands on its own in the hottest weather with a pair of your cutest sandals! However you choose to style them, together they’re the perfect base outfit for moving your wardrobe from summer to autumn.

Black Slash Luxe Hi-Rise 24″ – encased elastic up top, recommend size down one for more compression
Flamingo Stronger Tank – cropped/fitted look, recommend true-to-size or size up one for relaxed feel

Can You Relate? You Might Be Feeling Imposter Syndrome

by: Danielle Ternyila

What is Imposter Syndrome? Well, according to the dictionary, it’s the persistent inability to believe your success is deserved or has been legitimately achieved as a result of your own efforts or skills.

So what’s imposter syndrome? A phenomenon we may struggle with mentally to believe in ourselves, in a sense. We experience extreme feelings of self-doubt and lack of self-worth, or just general confusion in our life or career. It can happen to anyone, and it can be a completely normal feeling. It can be a daunting feeling to go through, but you should never feel alone in this. There are many of us out here who feel the same way, and I hope you can walk away today feeling a little more in control in these doubtful times.

Serena Williams, Jennifer Lopez, Tom Hanks, and Maya Angelou are among some of the biggest names we all know who have had their own experiences with feelings of self doubt and inadequacy. These are people we love to see on screen or who have inspired us, and they too have admitted to feeling like they’re a “swindler” or a “fraud” in their lives. Even Lady Gaga, Meryl Streep, Natalie Portman, Seth Godin, and Michelle Obama have experienced imposter syndrome, too. Now how is that for company?

What do we know about Imposter Syndrome?

Imposter syndrome was first studied in the early 1970s, which is when the lead researchers and psychologists Pauline Rose Clance & Suzanne Imes coined the term. Specifically, they studied this phenomenon in 150 high-achieving women who appeared to be more successful than their peers and were having a hard time attributing their success to themselves. They were highly successful and intellectual individuals with PhDs, but they felt like phonies, “imposters”.

Research has since shown that it is much more prevalent among women, men, and children alike today; in fact, roughly 70% of the population experiences this during their lifetime, including some of the greatest minds in history, even Albert Einstein! In fact, this phenomenon is observed most in high-achieving people, and if this is affecting you, then it’s almost a compliment to your intelligence, right?

Imposter syndrome, also sometimes called perceived fraudulence, is a completely valid experience that you may be experiencing if this sounds familiar to you. You may suffer from a lack of confidence or are constantly comparing yourself to others. You may doubt your abilities and accomplishments. This is a mental phenomenon that does not actually define your self worth and successes or failures.

What are the signs or symptoms of Imposter Syndrome?

We attribute our success to external/outside factors; as in, there is some other reason we had achieved a goal, be it a glitch in the hiring process, someone being nice to you/taking pity on you, or just dumb luck.

Imposter syndrome convinces us that “the impossible” is more likely than we are to succeed. It lets us think the worst thing, that we aren’t good enough and all that we have done has never been enough.

We doubt ourselves and our accomplishments. Nothing we do is good enough.

We overwork ourselves and risk burnout trying to make everything perfect because we cannot fail; failure is not an option.

We wonder who we are, what role we play, where we fit in…. We question ourselves and how we got to where we are or this far in our careers.

We turn down or avoid asking for help, even when we need it most because we fear it will show we are not competent or good enough.

We will waste every moment trying to find out everything and understand every little detail until we have all the knowledge on a task, but the task may never get done.

We may achieve big accomplishments and only see what we did wrong; we think it should have been done better, we could have done better, and we didn’t do good enough.

Activist and Actress Emma Watson said, “It’s almost like the better I do, the more my feeling of inadequacy actually increases, because I’m just going, Any moment, someone’s going to find out I’m a total fraud, and that I don’t deserve any of what I’ve achieved. I can’t possibly live up to what everyone thinks I am and what everyone’s expectations of me are.

We may struggle with accepting praise and recognition for our efforts and accomplishments.

We may ask ourselves, are we good enough? We may question if we were just in the right place at the right time.

Imposter syndrome can sneak up on us in so many ways, but it all comes back to this negative mindset. How does it change your interpretation of this when you factor in that 7 out of the 10 people you see every day are thinking the same thing? You may be trying so hard to keep cool so no one “catches on” to you, but many of the people you see, even the most confident and successful people, are experiencing the same feelings of doubt in some way.

Ways to Fight Imposter Syndrome

I am a big advocate for seeking mental health help, having a support team of friends or family that you can trust to guide you, and seeing the professionals (a therapist). If you are struggling with Imposter Syndrome, it is OK to ask for help, and you should always do so if you are experiencing severe thoughts of anxiety or depression. However, there are ways you can work on this at home on your own too.

Engage in Positive Self Talk Only

Imposter syndrome is made worse by the negative talk and self doubt, so shining a light on it all does make an impact. Fight the bad thoughts and think about everything you did right. If you begin to think negatively, take a moment to tell yourself a few important things you might sometimes forget (I know I forget sometimes too)

  • Nothing can be perfect, something to never forget
  • Learn from your mistakes and make them positive
  • Forgive yourself every time you need to
  • Talk about it with your “support team”
  • Recall your past successes to challenge the negative thoughts

Celebrate Every Victory, No Matter How Big or Small

I start every morning by making my bed to get goal #1 done right away, as cheesy as that sounds. Every single accomplishment, big or small, is a win. Sometimes it doesn’t feel that way if we always feel like we didn’t do it fast enough, good enough, or the “right way”, but a big part of combatting imposter syndrome comes down to targeting those negative thoughts and shutting them down. Every time you get something done, appreciate it and applaud yourself, no matter what.

Stop Comparing Yourself to Others

It is so much easier to assume the grass is greener on the other side, but the grass is only green where you water it. Focus on yourself and what you are doing to feel your best, and don’t let your mind start convincing you that someone else is smarter, stronger, or better than you. A major symptom of imposter syndrome is comparison to others, so nip that bad habit in the bud! It’s easy to assume someone else is more capable and knows how to do do it all, but to that, I share a quote from a former first lady, Michelle Obama:

“I have been at probably every powerful table that you can think of, I have worked at nonprofits, I have been at foundations, I have worked in corporations, served on corporate boards, I have been at G-summits, I have sat in at the U.N.: They are not that smart.”

If nothing else, I have just one last piece of advice to share, and it’s the last thing you need to know about imposter syndrome before we part ways today.

Well, unless you join me in my private Facebook empowerment group so we can be friends and connect online!

Take the advice of one of our favorite comedians, Tiny Fey:

“Seriously, I’ve just realized that almost everyone is a fraud, so I try not to feel too bad about it.”

Business Casual Bottoms Us Shorties Really Want

by: Danielle Ternyila

I live the life of a short woman, and I will only ever dream of what the world looks like from 5-feet up. There are some downsides to being short, as much as there are upsides (good luck trying to find us in Hide n Seek!) One of the hardest challenges since joining the workforce has been finding flattering and comforting dress slacks or business pants I can wear every day. After-all, we spend the largest part of our days dressed for work, so I of course want to feel most comfortable and confident.

Every day in the office can vary for me, which is what makes some of these pants so incredible, on top of being the perfect pant for us short girls! However, they are reliable and built to last. Zyia Active prides itself on creating quality clothing, and I am still amazed that no matter how often I wear these, they always look good as new (and I should add, I am in no way a pro at doing laundry right…).

More important, this brand offers something for every body. Clothes are not designed for us and our individual bodies, as if being loved slightly more by gravity was a crime. After years working in the office setting after graduation, I found a small handful of pants that did the trick for a while, but I still just counted down to Casual Friday every week. My

For reference, I’m 4′ 11″ (149.8cm) tall. The inseam for some of these vary based on size (see sizing chart in my shop for exact inseam measurements!), but the perfect length for me has been around 25″. There are a few go-to pieces in my closet, but the Everywhere Pants, specifically, take up the most space in my closet!

Everywhere Pants

These sweat-wicking, quick dry, wrinkle-resistant… just overall, perfect pants are great for travel, the office, and especially hot days over the summer! It’s no surprise they’re called the Everywhere Pants because they will perfect for every outfit and occasion.

I’ll dress these up with something simple like a flattering but fitted Parallel Tank in a fun color tucked in, all paired with a blazer or snuggly cardigan. They look just as great with a hoodie for a grocery store run or paired with a tank on the hottest day; made with nylon and spandex, these are a great lightweight pant to protect your legs from the UV.

Similar to the Everywhere Pants, you also can’t go wrong with their somewhat-related cousin: the Everywhere Zipper Jogger, which adds just a little sparkle to your look however you wear it

Everywhere Zipper Jogger

The big difference between the Everywhere Pants and Everywhere Zipper Jogger is in the bottom cuff, observed in the photos above. The zipper is fully functional (great for pedicure day!) with silver or brass zips to match the metal-tipped drawstrings, just like the Pants have! Customers can also enjoy that same faux back pocket, which just makes these bottoms look even more smart casual.

These are just as great in the heat or on a rainy day. These are my go to when I have to drive into the office in a storm and I don’t want damp pants all day. However, if you prefer a slightly heavier and more flattering fabric, the Peak Zipper Joggers have a few subtle differences you might appreciate.

Peak Zipper Jogger

Peak Zipper Joggers have slightly more nylon and a little less spandex than the Everywhere Zipper Jogger counterparts. This means they are a little thicker, which make them perfect for chilly campfire nights, freezing office buildings, schools, hospitals, or really any where. These women’s pants also have a functional drawstring and metal-dipped at the ends , along with 2 deep pockets that can hold your phone or anything else you need to carry with you.

The reinforced, no-pinch waistband fits comfortably around the waist, and the overall jogger hugs your curves gently, so you could size down one for a more fitted look. If you do like a flowy pant leg, though, I recommend the Work Flow Pants.

Work Flow Pants

These have a much higher waistband than others in my activewear boutique with our no-roll magic too. The inseams range from 22.5″-24″ (57.1-70cm), and the wide flowing leg features one box pleat that from the pocket to hem, creating a dramatic leg that can easily be styled and dressed for a business casual day. Two deep pockets is a game changer in your office attire too!

The Work Flow Pants are designed to be more fitted at the hip, so it’s recommended you size up one for a slightly more relaxed fit around the waist. They have incredible breathability with optimal sweat-wicking power, not to mention the four-way stretch fabric you’ll find in all my pants and joggers. These are great to dress up with a fitted blouse when you have to dress business casual, but you could also go for a skirt instead of pants, and for that I’d recommend the Effortless Skirt!

Effortless Skirt

End the week on a fun note! I love to stay comfortable for Casual Friday in something like our best leggings or something as cute as the Effortless Skirt! This is so easy to pair with a blazer too if you want to look the most smart casual, but this pencil skirt-inspired (or improved, perhaps?!) bottom is a knockout with 2 deep pockets for your phone or other needs. The waistband does not dig in with the wide 2″ (5.1cm) encased elastic up top. The flattering A-line design will look great on every body, especially my short girls.

Even though I am not even 5′ (152.4cm), this skirt comes to the perfect length on me to wear in the office as a business casual look with a blazer and heels, or it goes great with some sneakers and a cute tank. Check out more outfit inspiration on my instagram @Danielle-the-writer.

South Jersey Embraces New Local Hot Spot: Inclusion Coffee Shop

by: Danielle Ternyila

Inclusion – the feeling of being “a part of” something or a group. It’s the feeling that you belong in the world, even just walking into a Dunkin Donuts or Wawa on your daily commute in the Jersey traffic; inclusion is feeling respected, valued, and treated the same as every other customer who walks in. For individuals with special needs, it is one of their biggest obstacles to overcome, but one new business owner in Elmer New Jersey has made it her personal mission to make everyone feel at home when they visit Inclusion Coffee Shop.

Since the doors opened in April 2022, customers have enjoyed the welcoming spirit and home-like atmosphere of Inclusion Coffee Shop in NJ. This local coffee spot in south Jersey is more than just a cup of good joe and a smiling face behind the counter; Amanda Vellon, founder and owner, was inspired by her youngest son Rome, who is often spotted on the Inclusion Coffee Facebook Page enjoying the treats! He was gifted an extra chromosome (like the genes you get from Mom and Dad!) at birth, which is the cause of Down Syndrome and affects about 1 in 700 babies every year, according to the CDC.

With a background in sales and degree in business, Amanda took off with this idea to raise awareness of Down Syndrome and do her best to make this world a better place for every body. Now she is doing that one coffee and one great big contagious smile from Rome at a time!

Amanda says, ”I’ve spent months from sun up to sun down working on getting the shop ready and now that we’re open, I still work just as much but I love it! I have a passion to spread awareness for Down Syndrome and how important inclusion is, for any individual to feel welcome in any space or group no matter the diagnosis.”

Inclusion Coffee Shop

Open Monday-Saturday from 6:30am to 3pm, customers can visit Inclusion Coffee for a delicious coffee, refreshing espresso drink, tea, or frappe. Enjoy fresh pastries, bagels, donuts, paninis and more, whether you want to take it to go or relax in the cafe to soak in the good vibes.

The official Grand Ribbon Cutting will take place Saturday June 25, and Amanda is excited to celebrate with the community. The event will include prizes and even face painting for kids!

“We have been very successful since opening day. The support from the community has been incredibly awesome,” Amanda told Just Your Best. “One thing that always brings me to tears is when I meet other moms that went through what I went through with my son. I continue to meet amazing people who share with me how happy it makes them that they have a place to bring their child and can always feel welcomed.”

It’s no surprise the community has come to embrace this uplifting new small business in the heart of south Jersey. Amanda is incredibly passionate about the cause and her customers, and she is backed by a strong family of support too: her incredible best friend and husband, Tito; their four children, Natalya, Giotto, Milania, and Rome; and her entire family from her parents to her siblings, aunts and uncles, cousins, and all who have helped and motivated her along this journey.

“I’m incredibly blessed to have such a supportive family! I love them so much. My goal is to continue to spread awareness and open coffee shops with a mission nationwide!”

Stop in to meet Amanda and find a new favorite coffee shop that is sure to brighten your day!

The Trick to Maintaining Your Weight Loss

by: Danielle Ternyila

With the promise of so many fad diets and quick fix weight loss programs, my fear 75 lbs ago was that no matter what I lost, I would gain it back anyway and be at the same spot. It seemed impossible, so rather than throw in the towel, I sought out the answers for the best trick of all: keeping off the weight after you lose it.

Losing weight is a huge success that comes with so many challenges along the way, but the hardest part is the part that comes next, maintaining that win long-term instead of falling into old habits again. This was the most important part of my weight loss journey for me, and it’s something we all struggle with, yet don’t talk about enough. We do, now, talk about it plenty in my Facebook support group, and I’ll talk about it here again.

To maintain your weight loss achievements, you can’t stop now. You’ve worked hard to get here, you’ve made changes and done courageous things, like perhaps stepping foot in a new gym or entrusting a surgeon for assistance. No matter what, the next step is to stay healthy.

The trick to keeping it all off is to make changes to your lifestyle that support your health. Creating a healthier lifestyle that supports your weight loss is your hack, and it will feel easier said than done. Don’t let that stop you, especially when it is your health and wellness on the line.

I started making changes to my overall lifestyle to help improve my health and keep going at this goal. If I wanted to be healthy, I realized that I actually had to do exactly that. I cut out all the unhealthy snacks and processed foods in the cabinets; I started filling my fridge with more fruits and vegetables, and I started cooking much different meals than I was used to growing up in an Italian family addicted to pasta and bread.

Giving up my favorite snacks and even meals was a hard decision, but I learned it was not about cutting it out entirely. Moderation is key. Instead of enjoying these guilty pleasures regularly, they became a treat, which I sometimes think makes it that much more enjoyable than having it every week. I also limited my beverages and cut down on excess sugar in my diet too by switching to water and black coffee or teas.

Every day is a challenge, but I prioritize my health regardless. Though it has been years since I started this journey, I still crave all of my favorite unhealthy delights, but cravings pass.

What’s Your Fitness Style?

by: Danielle Ternyila

There is no right or wrong workout style, as long as you find the right one for you. Fitness is an essential part to a healthy and happier lifestyle, but there is no need to compare yourself to others or hold yourself to standards set by watching others’ successes on social media. There isn’t just one way to do things; in fact, there are endless options today, so to narrow down your options, let’s find which of the 4 fitness styles are for you.

There are 4 simple ways we all get started for any workout routine, but of course how we exercise and go from there can vary so much between CrossFit, lifting, running, yoga, and everything else! If you’re trying to answer what is the perfect workout for you, this is a simple first step that will get you much closer to enjoying your workouts and living your best. You never have to be the best – just yours.

I didn’t know where to start 70 lbs ago when i finally forced myself into my local gym and signed up for my first membership. I sulked along the treadmills and bikes for a few weeks because that’s all I knew how to do. There was a voice in my head telling me if I tried anything else, I would look silly or do it wrong, so I’m here to tell you not to let that or anyone get in your head. Your fitness journey is yours, and it’s never going to look the same as someone else’s.

1. Gym Membership

An open gym near home is a great place to achieve all your weight loss and health goals. Things to consider in choosing the right gym membership for you: their hours and when you will work out most, the distance and your commute, and the overall gym setup. I’ve tried many to find my “happy place” in a gym, and for me, it was important to find one open late on weekends, open early on week days, and plenty of room and machines for me to try new things and not feel cramped. In a gym, you have so many options every workout could be different, or you can stick with a favorite of your own: treadmill and bikes and cardio, or weights, stretching, and yoga balls. There’s something for everybody here, and it is also a great place to start a fitness journey with the chance to try so many different things.

Going to the gym can be scary the first time, but you shouldn’t be afraid or embarrassed to be a newbie, and here’s why.

2. Class Community

With a class, there is a community that comes with it, which is something that really draws some in. Working out in groups isn’t for every body, but it has a lot of perks and benefits you might not even be thinking about, especially if you are already thinking of skipping ahead to #3! When you work out in a group, like a yoga class or CrossFit, you have a coach, guidance, and support all around you. Every one is there for the same reason as you, and instead of looking at them like a crowd, see them as your teammates keeping you going when you just want to quit.

It’s like working out with a buddy; you will always keep going when you have someone else to push through with you, or perhaps just motivate you to keep up!

3. At Home or Virtual

The 2020 pandemic certainly showed the world that almost all things can be done virtually, but fitness videos are nothing new. Getting in shape from the comfort of your home has been around since the beginning, assuming even cave men probably tumbled around some big rocks to get stronger. Luckily since then TV was born, the internet came around, and working out at home became more than just owning your own gym equipment. Home exercise can be done with a space saving treadmill in the living room or now we have endless videos with coaches of all different styles to keep us active and on track.

There are countless apps available now, or the old-fashioned YouTube where you can find a coach for nearly any kind of workout at home. If you like a funny coach, you can find one. If you want someone to yell at you through a TV to not give up, you can find one. If you need equipment-free workouts or exercises you can do with a bad shoulder, you can believe you are not alone, even while working out in the living room!

4. On the Ground

On the ground, turf, on the go, out and about! There’s no shame in enjoying nature and getting your sweat on with some sunny vitamin D raining down on you too. This is for runners and walkers, but it doesn’t have to stop there. I incorporate strength training into my daily walks with my dog, using my body weight alone to challenge my body in. Squat, lunges, or even tricep dips or push-ups on a bench along our way. Others may also enjoy outdoor yoga, Pilates, or other outdoor activities, like even horse shoes and volley-ball too!

There are obviously countless ways to get active and sweat, so if you’re new to working out, start trying new things. I had never step foot in a real gym before 2017, but I was on a mission to lose 70 lbs, so that determination drove me all over the “fitness map”. The gym, workout classes, 1:1 coaching, CrossFit, Barre, yoga, Pilates, Zumba, virtual videos, and even home equipment have all played huge roles in my weight loss journey and finding the activity I truly am passionate about to keep me active and healthy every day.

3 Rules for Healthier, Supportive Weight Loss Talks

by: Danielle Ternyila

The way we talk about our weight has changed so much in my family over the years, and it has definitely been a change for the better. Weight seemed like such a private matter, and it could be considered rude to discuss or hurtful. That’s the way we all are used to thinking, but I think that’s only holding us back.

My mom and I, for example, have regular conversations about our health, and I don’t mean just updates on doctors appointments out of curiosity. We talk about recipes, we talk new healthy cooking hacks and swap ideas, brainstorm new workout routines when I get in a rut, celebrate our successes weekly or even daily… Health is not an “bad” topic in our family, even when we fall off the wagon and haven’t been making the healthiest choices; those times are most important to communicate so we can get help and motivation to keep going.

That said, there are a few important ways the conversations have changed that make these most beneficial to us. Use these 3 tips to have more positive discussions around weight and our health, whether in our families, friendship circles, or an online support group of like-minded friends. Here’s a few rules to keep it positive:

Judgement Is Not Invited

The discussions we have aren’t judgmental; they are supportive and encouraging. We do our best to compliment each other and celebrate wins, as well as help overcome the battles and struggles along the way too. It feels a lot more possible and real in your mind when you have a team of support behind you, starting with your family or those closest to you. When there is no judgement or feel of embarrassment, the conversations are better all around and more productive.

This is most important on the bad days especially. We need to be supportive of each other, and so whether we are having a bad day or our friend is having a bad week, those are the most important times to hold all judgement. Things happen, life can change, and it’s okay to not be perfect all the time. Just support one another all the same.

Honesty Supports Succcess

If the whole idea of positive health talk in your family is new, everyone has to start somewhere. It can be hard and feel personal to talk about your weight, and it can feel really hard to admit your inner thoughts, even to the most cherished loved one. However, you need to know you are in a supportive environment and can say anything without judgement. Be honest and don’t tell lies about your journey.

The only person you are doing a disservice to when you lie about your health is you. Think about that! Whether your doctor, your mom, or your significant other knows you’re still eating junk food, skipping the gym, or lying about your weight, you’re only hurting yourself at the end of the day. Use honesty and their support to help motivate you in your weight loss endeavors.

Share And Learn As You Go

Not only has this completely shaped the way our family talks about health, but I think the biggest impact has been sharing everything we’ve learned as we go. My sister will call me with a new healthy cooking hack, my mom will email me a new recipe, my dad will unwillingly sign me up for a 5k at random. Not only do we support each other, but we can provide more support for one another when we are involved. Even if I can’t go to the gym with my mom due to conflicting schedules and I can’t have dinner with my sister every day, we still share our successes and lessons so we can all benefit from it.

No matter what, taking any steps, big or small, toward achieving your weight loss goals is going to push you further along. Having support from home or around you changes your own mindset and helps you believe in yourself.

Not to mention, there are so many benefits to having a workout buddy too! It doesn’t have to be about sharing your own journey with someone on the same path. If there is anyone you can talk to about your weight and health goals, it should be your gym buddy, and if you don’t have one yet, there’s too many reasons why you should.

Interpreting Corporate Dress Codes: Business Casual

by: Danielle Ternyila, Zyia Active Independent Rep

While “Casual Fridays” may hold a special place in our hearts, the need for business casual is not completely unwarranted in the business world. Various dress codes can be placed and enforced in the workplace, and as the employee, it is our concern to abide by these policies and present ourselves with the appropriate level of professionalism.

Business Casual is a very common dress code I have found myself building wardrobes around since high school when I started visiting my mom’s office after school for my first “part-time” gig. While all companies decide on their own dress codes to describe in the sacred employee handbook, there are keywords that can easily indicate the expectations of the company, so you can understand exactly what is appropriate and what will not be for your new job (or just the ‘new you’ if you’re just on your next shopping bender for your ole’ 9-5!)

Dress Conservative

#813 Lilac Parallel Tank

Unless your role and company requires you to stand out (perhaps a fashion designer or a Queen), most dress codes will strive for conservative attire, meaning more formal and modest clothing choices. This refers not to just how revealing a piece is but also adherence to tradition and the tone that has already been set; if most people in the office wear blazers and jackets, you should also wear something similar.

Most people also gravitate toward neutral colors, tans, whites, or blacks and navy’s, that tend to blend in among the crowd and are easy to style, but this doesn’t mean you have to completely shy away from your favorite pink blouse or a stand-out dress that still aligns with your business casual company policies. When I want to dress my most modest, I go to the Parallel Tank first, for example, as it provides great coverage, has a full-length hem, and gentle support that flatters but does cling to your figure.

Customer-Serving Employees/Events Should Present Clear and Presentable in Appearance

#688 Black Everywhere Pants

It’s important to represent the company as your best self, so when you know you will be seeing customers or clients, it is essential that you dress most professional in these instances. Your best business casual wardrobe should include suits/skirts, dress pants, dresses, jackets/blazers, cardigans, and your nicest blouses.

In other words, look tidy and put together, not like you just ran from your third-shift position as a hockey referee and through the sprinklers before you clock in to the office. To make my own life easier, I always reach for my Everywhere Pants in these instances (above) because they are anti-wrinkle and water resistant, so they always look great, even if I had to run through the parking lot to make it to a meeting and spilled some tea a while back in the car.

Smart Casual Is Preferred

#5094 Distressed Blue Ankle Cinch Hi-Rise 7/8 24″

If your office boosts a smart casual dress code as opposed to the business casual you’ve grown accustomed to, appreciate the balance between a polished business professional look in the comfort of more casual pieces. Smart casual refers to something just a little bit more casual than the other offices before, quite progressive for a post-pandemic world! You can incorporate some of your more casual and comfortable articles of clothing into your office outfits while still dressing your best.

I’d expect in a smart casual office setting, you could get away with something like the Distressed Blue Ankle Cinch Hi-Rise in my activewear boutique (above) and a nice bootie, or you could even a pair of comfortable slip-on’s and a long cardigan.

No Yoga/Sweat Pants

#1096 Black Metallic Light n Tight Hi-Rise 7/8 24″

This is not a policy I take lightly as a part-time activewear rep, and there is a fine line between properly accessorizing athleisure wear for the office and stinking up the cubicles in your old alma mater sweats. When we see yoga pants listed on the no-no list, that indicates that it is important to be at your most presentable; booty-enhancing or bright tight leggings are a few of the things HR wants to avoid, but matte leggings paired with a lengthy sweater dress or Metallic Light N Tights (above) add a touch of personality to a draping blouse and cardigan that can look just as business casual as your dress slacks and cardigan.

Be considerate in what you are wearing if you do choose to seek the comfort of athleisure wear in your business casual wardrobe. My rule of thumb for leggings, specifically, is to cover the bum and pair with more conservator blouse or cardigan options to avoid any scrutiny.

Take a Deeper Look Into the Specifics

If you’re ever unsure about your dress code, there is nothing smarter than simply asking your HR representative for some guidance; that’s what they are there for, and if anything else, to dress for success, some suggest you dress like your boss; mimic their fashion choices in your own.

Appropriate Tops According to Policy

  • Suits and/or coats and ties is a specific example your company may call out in their employee style guidelines, but it is also helps describe their expectations. For women, this can send mixed messages about what may be appropriate, though this can also indicate that blazers or cardigans will play an essential role in your closet. Be sure to consider what others wear around you in the office.
  • Polo, Crewneck, and Collared Tops are safe go-to’s for the office, but you could also consider high-neck blouses, sweaters, or button-up’s. What isn’t appropriate would be see-through or revealing pieces, t-shirts or “torn” looking tops, and anything showing distracting, inappropriate or racy graphics (even if it’s a really cool vintage band tee).

Appropriate Bottoms for Business Professionals

  • Casual Slacks would be considered pants or bottoms that resemble your traditional dress pants; they should not be tight-fitted or elastic like your gym sweats or clubbing outfits. If the dress code indicates for a more casual approach, this could also include a thoughtfully designed pair of denim bottoms, so long as they are not blue, tight, or appear casual in any way.
  • Dress Slacks specifically are a more formal pair of pants and shouldn’t be confused with jeans, yoga pants, or shorts.
  • Skirts and Dresses should be of an appropriate length; mini-skirts, skorts, or any tight little skirt better suited for a vacation to Miami Beach are never the answer, but with careful accessorizing and perhaps a pair of stockings, a long flowy or pencil skirt can be a great alternative to pants in the office.

Footwear for the Office

Flip-flops, crocs, mud boots, your hiking shoes, and smelly gym sneakers are not often acceptable in the office setting, but you could still get away with a stylish boot that goes with a nice jacket and blouse or your sparkling-like-new tennis shoes. Clean athletic shoes or more casual slip-on’s can also work, but be mindful of what others wear in the office too as a guide.

There remains the other shoes you can wear too: the heels, sandals, flats, or in the more casual setting some stylish boat shoes. Depending on the outfit you’re working with, I’m convinced you can make any shoe work, unless you work somewhere that requires closed toe or steel-dipped shoes (then don’t break any rules for your own safety!)

Casual Friday’s

Not every company chooses to have a dress-down day, but if your HR team does allow this, remember to continue dressing to impress in the most “business casual” fashion you can; this is still not the day to wear your track pants and old faded hoodies or funny T-shirts. Take advantage of this day by wearing your favorite jeans if that’s what you desire, but avoid drawing attention to yourself by getting too comfortable. If the CEO or President of your company bumped into you in the lunch room that day, would you feel appropriate in what you wore? Keep that in mind when you get yourself ready for another Fri-yay!

What’s In My Suitcase: 3-Day Business Trip in the Back Bay

by: Danielle Ternyila, Zyia Active Independent Rep

Packing for a business trip used to be such a daunting task, with having to prepare for so many unknown variables, last minute dinners, and varied business-attire expectations. The one thing that will never change from city to city, however, is our desire to pack light and easy! I’ve learned along my way how to minimize luggage, so I’ll share how I packed this past week for a 3-day business trip to the beautiful city of Boston!

Pick Your Color Base

This is the first thing on my mind when packing, and for me it always revolves around the shoes. If you’ll be walking exhibit floors and large conference halls like me, focus on the footwear that will be carrying you everywhere. Once you know what shoes you’re bringing, you can start working on your color palette for work trip. Everything else you pack should revolve around those colors.

It’s better to pick a more neutral color that can be paired with a lot, rather than something vibrant and outstanding. For my late-March work trip to Boston, I went with a blush/nude tone that I could pair with whites and pinks; I packed my most comfortable strappy platform heels and a basic sneaker for outside the meetings, the gym, and walking around exploring.

Choose Versatility

This is where my White Grid Tank came in handy! This crop tank has a built-in bra to kill 2 birds with 1 stone. Everything I pack had to serve more than 1 purpose, so a bra/top in one is a no-brainer. Then I pull in some simple tanks and tops that can be styled for at least 2 different looks.

I packed the White Muscle Cubana Tank that has great ventilation and lots of coverage, so I wore that on Day 1 with joggers, which I swapped out for leggings to get some cardio in later. This top was also a comfy alternative to a PJ top and worked for a quick cardio session! It was comfy to drive up in, too.

I should also mention, I choose bras like the Grid Tank and our other Zyia sports bras because they also double as swim tops on the off chance I have time for a dip in the pool!

Avoid Anything That Wrinkles

The key to a business-professional wardrobe in a suitcase is clothes that don’t wrinkle. I purposefully pack bottoms I know won’t wrinkle, like the lightweight Everywhere Pants from my Zyia Active boutique; I can wear any pair of these (in black, olive, or navy) more than 1 way too by pulling up the legs into a capri style for some versatility, but they pack so neat and small that I’ll usually pack more than 1 pair anyway.

For my corporate travel this week, I went with the Black and Olive colors, and I also threw in my Navy Perfection Joggers, which are another comfortable staple for a flight too. All of these bottoms resist wrinkling, are sweat-wicking, quick-dry for those rainy days or sweaty gym workouts (because after all, they are basically activewear), and all feature 2 functional deep pockets.

These 3 colors all pair well with the nude-blush color palette I have created for this early-Spring trip 😉

Minimize Extra’s

You’ll always have the urge to throw in a few extra pieces in case something comes up, plans change, or the weather disrupts things. Plan out your days and the outfits to accompany them, then see how you can pull together those pieces to create some different looks.

6 Reasons I Became a Direct Sales Rep Twice and Don’t Regret It

by: Danielle Ternyila, Zyia Active Independent Rep | Former Pampered Chef Consultant

Direct sales, or otherwise known as multi-level marketing, offers unique opportunities that we all want to question from the very beginning. Is anyone really making money on it? Are those trips ever earned? Are the rewards that good?

It wasn’t something I ever thought about, and I perhaps believed into the rumors about “pyramid schemes” even. Nevertheless, I came across the opportunity in a Pampered Chef virtual party I was invited to by a friend. Having grown up in the kitchen cooking with my dad, I was familiar with the brand, despite being a recent college graduate with no kitchen of her own yet. I was intrigued, however, by the whole virtual party and how the sales rep posted throughout the day on social media from the comfort of her home and pocketing commission along the way. That seemed like something any one could do, so I looked into it.

I decided to start with my source, and I asked the rep all the questions I was thinking. Is it hard to find the time? How do you know the products so well? How much money do you make? How do you post so regularly? Is it hard? What if i don’t do well?

There were probably 70 different questions I asked, then I jumped to the internet to compare this company with others popular in the direct sales industry. I explored different commission plans, different representative benefits, different requirements, and different products. There were a lot of options out there, and I started to veer toward another brand (which I would switch over to in a few years any way after this initial experience) but ultimately came back to Pampered Chef after considering the things that were most important to me at the time.

It’s important to think through your decision and make sure it’s the right choice for you. Here are the reasons I decided to take the leap and become a consultant for Pampered Chef and later a proud Zyia Active rep!

Reason #1

Extra income was the primary driver behind my interest in a multi-level marketing opportunity. I was comfortable enough to get by with my current income, but my student loans took up a big chunk of change. Meanwhile, my heart yearned for a life of travel and moving out of my parents’ house. Making extra money could help me stay financially responsible and enjoy the pay off for my hard work too.

Reason #2

I didn’t have a set of regular hours of free time to hold another job, despite liking the idea of having some extra income on a regular basis. My full time job had me traveling the country more often, which made me a very unreliable job candidate for a local waitress or babysitting part-time gig in between. With a schedule as constantly-changing as mine, I just didn’t have the time to dedicate to another employer. I did, however, have a free hour now and then and could usually find some time to work most weekends when I was home.

The multi-level marketing opportunity gave me that flexibility. I could put in 2 scattered hours work one week, or do 10+ another when I had more time. The best part: doing it all from the convenience of my phone.

Reason #3

My work ethic and drive were never in question, but I really didn’t want to report to someone else. I didn’t want to feel guilty when I didn’t prioritize it, and I didn’t want to feel like I was letting anyone down if I didn’t perform the best.

Becoming an independent consultant allowed me all of that!

Reason #4

Despite reason #3, I was still of course new to sales outside of my short time as a Starbucks barista in college and my high school days behind the desk of a tanning salon. “Running my own business” didn’t seem tangible when I had no idea what I was doing or how to do it.

While it is up to you how you run your business, there is still so much support for you behind the scenes with a direct sales business. Today I’m an independent representative for Zyia Active, and our reps are blessed with the most incredible community, customer service, and supportive corporate team. There is always someone there to answer my question, offer advice and guidance, or otherwise motivate me when I need it.

No matter what company you join, you aren’t the only one, so even in running your own business your way, there’s someone else out there to help.

Reason #6

Don’t we all dream of an employee discount to our favorite shops and boutiques? Another enticing incentive that had me considering the opportunity was the guarantee of a discount on high-quality products. I thoughtfully considered this in making my decision on which company to join, and the Pampered Chef business I ran for 3 years helped to stock my first kitchen without breaking the bank and while still gaining commission along the way.

As a clothing shopaholic, I now get my dose of new style on a discount or more often free through my hard work and efforts monthly. I make commission while stocking my family’s closets with quality clothes at minimal costs.

4 Healthy Habits to Impact Your Mindset

by: Danielle Ternyila

Changing your mindset can be a really hard thing to do, but it is far from impossible. It takes time; it won’t always be easy, but nothing worth it ever will be “easy”.

There are at least some things you can do throughout your day to help change your mindset slowly but surely. By doing things that bring more positivity, focus, and energy into your every day, you can gain the confidence to do anything! The first step towards anything is believing in yourself, and these mindset tricks can help get you there.

Make Your Bed Every Morning

As soon as you crawl out of bed, turn around and make it again. It’s your first task of the day, so it’s sure to give you a huge sense of self-accomplishment immediately. Who wouldn’t want to start their day like this?

Doing so is known to improve your mood, much like some of these other simple habits. Make your bed so you’ll sleep better later, to reduce your stress levels, and improve your productivity. It’s the little things in life, after all.

Say Thank You Instead of Sorry

This is a big flaw we all can struggle with easily. When we make a mistake and get called out on it, our instinct is to apologize, but we’re human and can make mistakes. We are always learning, always growing, so we should be saying “Thank you” to those who catch the mistakes, help us through them, or just point them out. Thank you for your attention on that, thank you for pointing that out, thanks for explaining this.

When we break the habit of diminishing our work by apologizing, we can appreciate all our efforts, achievements, and growth instead of feeling guilty. Saying thank you, or at least learning not to immediately blurt out “I’m sorry!” when something isn’t done right, changes the attitude of the whole conversation. We shouldn’t have to feel like we have to be perfect all the time; just your best is exactly enough, and never apologize for that.

Drink Water First Every Day

Instead of starting the morning with coffee or your favorite tea, drink down a glass of water first, and maybe even add a splash of lemon for extra flavor! After sleeping for 8+ hours (by following the next tip), your body needs to be replenished. It has basically been in fasting mode for those long hours overnight, so you want to nourish it with what’s good for it, like hydration!

Play Your Happy Playlist

If you haven’t already, prep a “happy playlist” on your music app of choice. This should be all of the songs that make you feel good, the ones that lift you up and make you feel like you’re on top of the world. Be it a childhood favorite, some upbeat vibes, the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack or bagpipes, music can be a great tool for our mental health, and it’s something we can do daily.

Music can provide more benefits to your mental state than you could think. It is actually linked to having positive effects on the brain and natural chemicals like dopamine, the “happy” hormone! Start playing that feel-good playlist, and find somewhere to fit it into your every day, maybe when you are feeling your most anxious during the day. I listen to my playlist in the car on the commute to work or anytime I need to clean but not feeling it; a quick dose of “Walking on Sunshine” or “Dancing Queen” to get myself excited!

What are you doing every day to improve your mindset? What songs put you in your best mood? Share with us in our private support group on Facebook!

A Lesson for the Anxious from Schitt’s Creek: What People Might Think

by: Danielle Ternyila

“Trust me, people aren’t thinking about you the way that you’re thinking about you,” Alexis Rose said in the award-winning Netflix series Schitt’s Creek.

As someone suffering anxiety constantly, this motivating quote hit home in a real way. Her adult brother David is a nervous wreck over taking his driving test, and she explains it this simply: no one is thinking about you the way you’re thinking about you.

Anxiety has this terrible way of convincing us of the worst and overthinking everything. I often spend more time stressing over every detail of my life; I can get so caught up in “they’re going to think this about me” and “this is not what they want me to do,” but the truth is no one cares more about myself than me. I am my biggest critic, just like you your own and David his.

David’s driving test was causing him so much stress and anxiety because he was worried about passing, failing, letting the driving instructor down, or just doing it all wrong. Alexis reminds him he is the toughest on himself, which feels matter-of-fact to her, someone who does not often second-guess herself or question her worth. David fires back that she doesn’t know what it’s like to be him, and he rattles off reasons things are “easier” for Alexis. These are all excuses in David’s mind, though, that he uses as a coping mechanism when things feel hard for him.

It’s easy to be on the outside looking in, and we see this when David tells Alexis her life is so easy. Our anxious minds aren’t going to tell you everyone struggles and it’s hard for us all; we don’t know what battles others are going through, so it’s just easier and more common to assume they just don’t have any.

David puts this new knowledge to the test when he gets in the car with the driving instructor, and he asks how much the guy really cares about David’s driving. Turns out, he was hardly paying attention, he was really longing to make his DJ side gig his career, and no, he didn’t care how well or bad David did and how David presented himself.

We are so afraid to be judged, yet here David realizes that that he was so nervous to impress someone who didn’t even look at him during his test, let alone judge him. From my anxiety-ridden perspective, it’s important to see this dialogue we often hear internally and see how it really plays out.

Moral of the story: don’t be so afraid you start holding yourself back. Your anxiety is only mirroring your biggest fears, not reality, and if you still can’t gain control over your mindset in the most stressful moments, then at least binge Schitt’s Creek for a chuckle (advice from a fan.)

3 Space-Spacing Wardrobe Essentials for Women

by: Danielle Ternyila, proud Zyia Active Independent Rep

Amidst all my travels, there are 3 articles of clothing from my closet that prove to be the best time and time again. They pack light, they can be worn multiple ways, and the comfort is just too good to be true! I’m all about saving money, saving time, and saving space, so the multiple functionality of these pieces is truly a blessing you didn’t know you were missing out on.

Shopping for clothes online seems impossible, but Zyia Active is changing this and the fashion game entirely! As your personal rep, I have a multitude of tools available to help you find the right size and piece for you. Online shopping shouldn’t be a daunting and lonely process! Reach out to me on social media or complete my style quiz to get in touch, and I’ll help you shop your heart out.

Namaste Long Sleeve T

This top is sure to impress everyone you come across while sporting it! Available in several different colors (a few still on sale too!), this super soft long sleeve blouse has an open back and twist design that flows to flatter any shape or figure, but that isn’t even the half of it! The true beauty of these piece is in how many ways you can wear it.

You can see I have 4 favorite ways to wear this, starting by flipping it backwards so the cute swirl and open detail is in the front showing off my cute Grid Tank with the built in bra or another simple cami underneath. The sleeves are slightly fitted, so that they stay put without clinging too tight, but they are also long enough to convert to a halter top in 2 different styles like so. Rumor has it, there’s at least 2 more ways to wear this one, but I can’t share ALL the secrets!

When you’re traveling for vacation or even a business trip, there are always unexpected variables that come into play and change course of your previously-curated plans. What is nice about this travel blouse is that you do have so much versatility in it. Whether you need to dress down for a last minute bar trip with colleagues, dress up for a fancy dinner, or just wear 4 different ways for 4 different days with none the wiser!

Peak Zipper Jogger

Unlike other joggers you may have tried, these are designed to suit you from the office to the gym, dinner dates to soccer games, and so much more. They can be styled with sneakers, sandals, or even your best pair of heels. Either way, you can decide how you want to dress these, which makes them the ultimate packing pair for your next flight.

These actually pack so small, I can throw them in my carry on with a few other select pieces and call it a day! No need for a big suitcase with the silky lightweight Peak Zipper Joggers. It has a luxurious creamy feeling, which will keep you warm in the cold months but is lightweight to keep cool this summer!

The zipper feature also makes this the best pair of pants to wear for your pedicure because you won’t have to roll them up, just unzip them! They fit very relaxed, so it’s recommended you size down one for a more fitted look.

The joggers feature 2 deep pockets in the front and a drawstring on a lay flat waistband that won’t roll. The inseams vary by size and between the different colors we have available, so you have plenty of options. Similarly, see our Everywhere Zipper Joggers with a silver zipper and an event lighter weight and cooler style for the spring and coming warm weather!

Pictured rocking the Navy Peak Zipper Joggers is my mama! She loves packing these for her travels and wearing them to work, too!

Grid Tank

We had this incredible sports bra called the Grid Bra, a super fun bra for dressing up with a V-neck look and fabric crossing the chest for a unique style. It’s recommended customers size up, particularly those more blessed in the chest. To better accommodate all fashionistas and body types, the company launched this new edition of the Grid Bra!

The Grid Tank is a 2-in-1 bra and tank, so the built-in bra functions just like the Grid tank, except with the overlaying tank feature, it fits just as expected! For D+ cups, it would be recommended to still size up 1 for the best comfort and most flattering fit. This can easily be layered under tops or sweaters to peep out and show a little extra style, but as a tank you can rock it in the gym or on its own no problem. It’s a very edgy look, and of course it can always double as a swim top!

Because it is a tank in a sense, there is more abdominal coverage than other bras, though it still has a cropped look. While all of our sports bras double as swim tops at Zyia, this one in particular can be very flattering and the perfect piece for the beach! Pack it for the pool, for layering, or to work as a bra! Either way, this is another great space saver for your luggage and your closet in general.

What piece do you need? I’d say all of them, but you know your closet best! What would fit in your wardrobe? Share your answer in the style quiz.

Two Reasons to Avoid Measuring Weight Loss Success Against Clothing Sizes

by: Danielle Ternyila

Your weight loss goals and achievements can’t be reached if you’re measuring it all by pant size, or any clothing size for that matter. Our bodies are all unique and with so many different designers, brands, materials, and styles in clothing out there, there is not enough consistency to compare yourself to a tag. You may think you need to be a size X to be happy, but by what standards?

Over the course of a year, my most determined self committed to getting in shape and losing the 60+ pounds I had gained in college. During this time, I weighed myself daily and saw great progress at first, but once I shed the first few “easy” pounds, it got harder and I felt hopeless when I began to fluctuate and struggled with losing the rest. I would get so upset to put on a size 8 that barely fit after a 6 just the week before, but now when I look back, I see that those 2 different sizes actually were more similar in the waist after all being bought in different stores and made by different designers.

We can get so torn up over a number on the scale, but what’s far worse is the fear of our “fat pants” never fitting well again. Our clothing sizes are so inconsistent , however, that you can be a Medium in one brand while an X-Large in another fits the exact same!

Clothing Sizes Always Vary

By measuring my weight loss success through the size-18 jeans I hadn’t zipped up in years, the feelings of failure crept in eventually, and not fitting into them or still wearing bigger sizes did not leave me feeling encouraged to try harder. I’m not doing it right. I will never lose this weight. I have to just love my body for what it is, I thought.

Yes, you have to love yourself, but also remember you cannot give up on yourself either. At the end of the day, all the clothes in stores today come in so many varied styles and materials, waistlines and collars, inseams and hemlines. All of these things make each pair of pants in your closet unique, and I’m sure you’ll see inconsistencies if you laid out a few pairs in the “same size” and compared. Our bodies are different too! We all lose weight in different places and at different rates. I couldn’t get my jeans to snap for a while at first, but after another 20 lbs down, I realized I was actually losing a lot in my chest first, instead of my gut and thighs that affected the pant size I was holding myself to.

When I did get the pants on, I kept working on myself, and I started using measurements to track my progress. My weekly routine included measuring my upper arm, chest, waist, thigh, etc. Even though my favorite skinny jeans didn’t fit, I could see exactly how I was doing and get a more realistic idea of my achievements than when I bet it all on wanting to be a certain size for my closet.

Our Bodies Aren’t Perfect Fits

I dropped from size (barely fitting in) 18 to a comfortable but shocking size 2, but then I noticed I started going back up in terms of sizes. Now I wear a 6 more often, but I also have a lot of pieces in an 8-10. It was hard not to see this as a failure because we all assume we have to be the smallest size. That’s not true!

Like I said, every piece of clothing is so uniquely designed with different materials, ideas, and intentions. After becoming a Zyia Active Independent Rep, I can see how all of these factors change the way things fit, just like our bodies are all unique. Some of our leggings have an encased band at the top to stay put for those who are more active or have more they want to “hold up”, but we also have leggings without that or ones designed intentionally less compressive for more casual or comfortable wear. Some of our clothing accentuates the abdominal area, while others aim to flatten it or draw less attention to the area altogether. This changes how every piece is designed, just like our bodies all require different styles and fits. It’s not all about the size on the tag.

All of our bodies are so unique, just like the clothes we love shopping for. We can’t just expect ourselves to be the perfect image we are looking for. The most important lesson of all was in learning to listen to my body more. Activity, balanced nutrition, and positive mental health routines are all a part of my day to day now, and no matter what Jean size I’m wearing, I feel better mentally and physically, which is the only thing that should matter to us as we lose weight and take back our health.

What Hosting a Party Means to my Customers

by: Danielle Ternyila, Zyia Active Independent Rep

We all see the posts online about hosting parties, and we’re always being invited to the next! Have you wondered why that is, or have you already indulged this new way of online shopping?

What makes this shopping experience unique, especially with Zyia Active and with my exclusive customers, is having a personal shopper available to help YOU find exactly what you need, and unlike the sales associate at the mall, reps like myself choose to join this company because we love it and want to be a part of this brand! It’s not just a job for me; it’s a community and the opportunity to help others with a problem I always struggled with: finding a reliable clothing brand that suits my lifestyle from the office to the gym and out for a date.

By hosting a party, you can save a lot of money! In fact, it’s the best way to shop; hang with your friends from the comfort of your home and earn free and half-priced items while I do all of the work. February 2022 party hosts have a bonus reward too! Ask me about it.

If you’re not familiar with hosting, I’ve shared what you could expect and how it works below. The major takeaway is that it costs nothing to try, and you can only gain!

Booking Your Party

You and I can find a week that works best for your schedule, but during that week, you don’t have to worry about being anywhere! Continue your usual daily activities and stop into the party group on social media; that’s where the party is happening and what makes it so easy. This gives your friends and yourself time throughout the week to party, shop, and learn more about Zyia!

Save Time, Shop Your Wardrobe’s Primary Color

by: Danielle Ternyila, Zyia Active Independent Rep

We all have a color we favor in our closet, or sometimes it can be by season. In the winter I always seem to be in black, but the go-to color is always a dark red or burgundy. During the summer and warmer seasons, I’m in neutrals with the addition of lots of pink! Those are easily my best go-to’s, but it took a while before I accepted that I do have favorites that I will just always reach for.

Having a primary color in your wardrobe isn’t a bad thing! It can actually save you time picking out your outfits each day when everything is so easy to match. No one says you have to wear something different every day, and there’s something to be said about having your own personal style!

If it’s your primary color, you know you’ll love it, and it will serve a purpose in your closet. Freshen up your wardrobe with some new additions that you know will fit in! Don’t see your color? Tell us in the comments!

Relaxed Reds

Cranberry is one of my favorites, like I said, and my clothing boutique has so many similar dark red shades! I get the most wear out of my Brick Parallel Tank (bottom right) that I wear with a blazer to the office or with a sweater for casual wear; the ribbed texture is flattering but not too tight, while it does have a more fitted look and the utmost coverage you can get in a tank! There are 2 more tanks worth highlighting in this color too.

Dress up our Boyfriend Lounge Tank (top right) or the Effortless Tank (bottom left)with a blazer or sweater. The lounge tank is a loose and relaxed fit with our famous “Boyfriend” soft material; the latter tank has a more fitted look with a longer hem in the back, which looks great tucked in too! Finally, be bold in our Maroon Unity Hi-Rise 7/8 24″ legging (top left), the butteriest and barest-feeling leggings in my boutique with a matte fabric that is easy to style so many ways!

Classic Navy

Navy is another popular color to lean on in your closet. If this is you, you may want to consider upgrading to a pair of Navy Perfection Joggers (top left) to style up your sweatpants at work or our Blue Kauai Light n Tight Hi-Rise 7/8 24″ legging (top right), which is our most compressive design (Light N Tight = LNT) to hold up against every workout and hold it in when you need it to. What I love most about the Perfection Jogger (top left) is the vertical seams down the front of each leg and the bulk-less pockets that make it functional for the office, still offering the comfort of your favorite sweatpants.

The Navy Cubana Tank (bottom left) is a great option for dressing up or wearing on your run, or you can go for Navy Long Finesse Slit Tank (bottom right) that has a long flowing fit and a slit on each side to tie up and style multiple ways.

Oh So Olive

My go-to bottom is the Olive Everywhere Pants (top left), and these are the perfect pair of pants for travel, business, work, or just wearing every day, with features like wrinkle and water resistance, a flat no-roll waistband, and our renowned 4-way stretch fabric! They pack super light, which is such a bonus if you’re always traveling for business like me! The Olive Long Finesse Slit Tank (top right) provides so much coverage with 2 long slits that appear graceful but also functional as you can tie them up to style multiple ways!

The Forest Camo Luxe Hi-Rise Capri 20″ leggings (bottom left) are part of our least compressive legging design; size down 1 for a tighter fit, but these are just oh so soft! For tops, consider the Olive Calmness Pocket Hoodie (bottom right), a new French Terry design and trim velvety-soft with a kangaroo pocket, too!

Pink and Perfect

This is a color I often hear people say they can’t ever wear to the office, and I just don’t understand how that’s true! You wear what you want, and if pink makes you happy, then so be it. There are ways to dress even the brightest of colors to your work wear, starting with the Muted Pink Mosaic T (top left), a subtle pink that still blends in with a unique mosaic-pattern texture and a slight, flirty translucent look. The Poppy Premium Tank (top right)is a more simple option with a fitted but relaxed look, easily paired with anything.

You can trust the Lipgloss Metallic Plus Light N Tight Hi-Rise Capri (bottom left) with a simple boot and nice blouse (with a 24-in inseam for the warmer weather!). One other piece I can’t rave about enough is the Hot Pink Seamless Hustle Shorts, which are sure to make you stand out; customers size 2XS to 4XL have obsessed over this line of bike shorts that slip on as smooth as Cinderella’s slipper on the right foot! You won’t be disappointed.

Yellow and Sunshine

The first that comes to mind when I think of our yellow pieces is the Icarus Hendrix Must Have T, which features sleeves reaching halfway to the elbow, a soft cotton-like but sweat wicking feel, and a classic t-shirt fit that isn’t too slouchy or fitted.Yellow Namaste Long Sleeve T is a fun long sleeve that can be styled so many ways – I have found 4 ways to wear it, but I know there’s at least 2 more, too!

Sunset Parallel Tank is just like our Brick Parallel Tank above, but in this super fun yellow that is deep and not too bright. Just like the Premium Tank in poppy, the Sunlight Premium Tank is a cute and lightweight top for layering and adding some color.

What color are we missing? There are more where these came from, so explore for yourself here.

January Check-In: Supporting Your 2022 Resolutions

by: Danielle Ternyila

The whole purpose of a New Years Resolution is to start new and fresh again focusing on your biggest goals. The most common resolutions surround self improvement, weightloss, career, and financial aspirations, but these resolutions don’t make it past January sometimes.

If you visit the gym throughout the year, you’ll notice a significantly less amount of people the more months go by since January. Once life starts getting back to normal after the holidays, it’s easy to just forget your New Years Resolution and continue doing what you’ve been doing, which just leaves you wishing you could have done it, regretting the past, or convincing yourself these things aren’t important to you anymore.

At the start of every month, I write down how I did in the last month, what my goals are for the next month, and the steps to achieve those goals in the upcoming 30 days. Instead of trying to plan a whole year and 52 weeks of good behaviors and crushing goals, focus on the next 4-5 weeks ahead of you at a time. It’s easier to plan, and gives you room for growth as you continue learning what works for you and what doesn’t.

Checking in monthly is important for adjusting and realign your goals. Are you on track or do you need to make a change? What went well this month and what didn’t? These questions can pinpoint particular challenges you have to overcome, plan around your constantly-changing schedule, and help you figure out how to do better the next month.

Some months will be easier than others, and some might be overtaken by vacations or holidays! This is the perfect time to plan ahead for those times. You can’t predict every event from the start of the new year, which is why monthly planning is better!

Ready to start preparing for your best month yet? With February here, take time to write down and reflect on the last 31 days. Answer the questions below to help you figure out what to do next, and feel free to print more planning pages to start this month strong!

  • What was my goal last month? Was this achieved or a work in progress?
  • What did I do well to achieve this goal?
  • What challenges came up during the month?
  • How can I improve next month? What changes should I make to overcome the challenges of last month?
  • Looking ahead, is there anything I predict will be a challenge this month? How can I still succeed?

I already can see with Valentine’s Day and a few birthdays in February that I will have some obstacles when it comes to staying true to my healthy diet. To be prepared, I’ll plan to bring my own healthy appetizer or dessert, and I’ll plan to stay on track the rest of the month to ensure I don’t feel guilty if I have a few bad days!

Comfort Zone or Settling?

by: Danielle Ternyila

We lean on comfort zones far too much. We excuse choosing fear over chasing dreams because it’s “out of our comfort zone.” Enough is enough! This is your safe space where you can feel in control, but the best things happen outside of your comfort zone.

Being in control of your life is so important, but when you choose comfort over adventure or your dreams, this space will not be enough. We were born to grow and change, so we need to do exactly that by doing the hard and scary things. Trying anything new and unknown is scary, but you should be more afraid of not knowing.

Just this time last year I was starting a new job in a new industry and field, and it felt so far out of my comfort zone after 3 solid years at my old company. During the time leading up to my first day, it felt like I was taking the most dangerous risk. What if I’m not good at this? What if this is too much for me? Are they sure they want to hire me? Would I fit in? What if no one likes me?

When you do try to get out of your comfort zone, your mind is going to fight that because it wants to stay in that safe place it knows so well. You’re going to think of all the reasons you shouldn’t leave what you know; even if it’s bad, it’s still familiar.

I had developed a routine and comfort in my old job, and as many bad days as there were, it was still “easy.” I knew what I was doing, my job was safe, and I had experienced enough of the bad to know I could get through it. The new job opportunity offered hope and excitement, and yet the biggest thing I saw was uncertainty.

Whether you’re looking to lose weight, start a new job too, or do something else that is a bit out of reach, you’re looking at an opportunity to get stronger. Getting out of of your comfort zone is actually a lot like learning a new skill; the more you practice, the easier it gets. You grow, you learn, and gain new confidence in yourself.

After a year in my new job, I don’t have any regrets, and all of those thoughts of self-doubt seem so insignificant today. I can’t believe I was so nervous and how much I had to fight that for what seems so easy today; I have a new and bigger comfort zone now, thanks to facing all these fears.

Next time you start feeling doubt that you can do something, just do it anyway. Accept that you can’t know everything, and the best things happen when you break out of your comfort zone. Take the risk and conquer your fears; you’ll be thankful when you do.

Just My Personal Review: Kencko vs Daily Harvest vs Evive

by: Danielle Ternyila

My goal is to maintain a healthy diet, but this has always been a challenge for me because I don’t actually eat a lot of veggies or fruit. I really am very picky with my fruit, and I tend to eat the same vegetables at dinner every night.

Smoothies and shakes have been my go-to for balancing my diet despite these challenges. I don’t mind the fruit and veggies when it’s mixed into a refreshing beverage to sip. (This is also how I enjoy some chocolate guilt-free!)

The ads for Daily Harvest hit me first, so I gave it a try a few years ago pre-COVID when I was in the office every day. My lifestyle changed, including my diet, come 2020, but I eventually found Evive and more recently Kencko.

I haven’t been asked to promote any of these, but I want to share my review because it was reading reviews like these on these brands that helped me most in making my purchase. Each of these offer a unique way to rejuvenate your diet, and if one doesn’t fit into your lifestyle, I’m sure another would. If you’re intrigued by smoothies and shakes but don’t have the time to prepare yourself one from scratch every day, there is a convenient alert stove to ease your day!

For me, these truly help to eliminate waste. When I tried making my own smoothies with fresh ingredients every day, I ended up with spoiled fruits and veggies in the fridge more often than not because I never got through it. It’s also a lot of work, and finding time is just a hassle.

Between all 3 brands, I don’t think I would say I have a favorite, but there is one that fits my style best. Since Daily Harvest, Kencko, and Evive are so unique, one might just be a better fit for you. Whether you need more variety in your diet, a blender-less option, or more options than just shakes, you’ll love these.

Evive Smoothie Cubes

After trying all of these homemade smoothie alternatives, my man and I both came back to Evive. You pick from so many delicious flavor combinations, then get the cubes in the mail frozen. They look like small discs

Daily Harvest Frozen Cups

Daily Harvest was the first I ordered a few years back, but as far as I know there haven’t been many changes since, not that I’d say they had anything to change. What I really enjoyed about this was it came in a disposable cup for my homemade bev and stacked easy in the freezer. Really unique concept, so you dump the frozen fresh ingredients into your blender or bullet, add your liquid, and blend. Once that’s all set, you pour it back in the cup, replace the lis again, and add a straw.

Note, it didn’t come with straws, but that’s not in anyway a negative thing. We should be using reusable straws for our planet! Each cup also had listed all the ingredients on it, so you can just look down and see what exactly is in your cup.

Kencko Packets

This most recent order has been a delightful surprise. I was unsure about smoothies coming in a powder form, but similar to the Daily Harvest, I can easily find on the package every ingredient. The flavors are by “colors” which is unique and fun, too! I love the Crimsons and Mochas!

Pick your blend from the variety of packages you choose to receive, then pour it into your milk or liquid and blend, similar to your protein shakes! My order came with a shaker bottle, too, but I also would recommend investing in a reliable shaker bottle like the ones available in my boutique here.

Between all 3, I think the most important thing to consider between these is your lifestyle. Living in an apartment with a small freezer, I would choose the Kencko packets or Evive cubes to save space, but most important is these last me longer than the fruits and veggies fresh in my kitchen ever do; I’m always on the go, and I just never have the time to prepare my own smoothies fresh. I hate wasting food, and this eliminates that problem for us!

Don’t have a blender for smoothies and shakes? Need a smoothie for on the go? Do you Try Kencko or Evive

Do you prefer wide variety beyond smoothies and shakes? Do you like to get creative with your meals? Consider Daily Harvest, which also offers other meals packaged similar for easy prep in the microwave or such.

Mirror, Mirror on the Wall: Let’s Not Compare To Them All

by: Danielle Ternyila

Why don’t I have her body? How does she stay so fit? Why do they get to travel so much? How do I get my home be that clean?

Social media can be the devil, especially when we start making comparisons as if we are looking in a mirror. From the outside looking in through an old friend’s social media, for example, it’s easy to assume things are just easier for them when things look good. They don’t post their bad days for you to see, which makes you start thinking worse about yourself.

Nothing looks good on me. I wish I could love the gym. I don’t get to go on vacations. I don’t have the time to clean and make my house look that nice. That’s just not me, I’ll never be like them.

There is no reason you should be doubting yourself by comparing yourself to your friends and influencers. The only real thing you can compare yourself to is the old version of yourself. Look at where you were before: that’s your competition.

Whether I am looking back at my teenage self, college self, or myself 1 year ago, that is where I am making my comparisons. How much have I achieved since then? Am I happier today than I was then? Have I surrounded myself with the right people? Do I take better care of myself? Have I learned from my mistakes and made myself better?

This is the most accurate and only way to measure your growth and the success of your life, through looking at yourself then and now, and of course staying motivated to make “future you” the best version of yourself, not backtracking or staying in place. We all get scared to try new things, which leads to us settling in our comfort zones, be it your job that’s easier to stay at than leave or how you spend your time.

Everyone has a dream of their own: to lose weight or get in shape, make more money, raise a great family, have the best job, own a business, or live in the dream home, for a few examples. None of those can be achieved if you don’t start believing that you can achieve all of these things. The only thing stopping you is yourself when you don’t apply, you don’t show up, and just give up.

Start with a plan and understand what your goals are. Take time to consider how you can get there. I honestly hated the gym when I was up 60 lbs a few years ago, so I prioritized eating healthier and tried new ways to be active so that I could achieve my goal. Every day since, I continue to compare myself to my “past self” and how far I have come. It makes me feel a lot more proud than comparing myself to someone else who has led a completely different life than me.

If you’re not sure where to start when it comes to looking in the mirror and comparing yourself to the fairest of them all (that’s you!), I have a few questions below to get you thinking positive and living the life you have been lusting after. You deserve it, that’s what you need to believe! You can live your best life, as long as you do your best to achieve that!

You get what you work for, not what you wish for.

  • What is your dream for your future?
  • Why is this important to you? What would it mean to you to achieve this goal?
  • What is holding you back?
    • Time, funds, commitment, knowledge, motivation, support, etc
  • What steps can you take to overcome those challenges?
    • Time management, finance planning or finding free programs, build a support system, join a team, make an inspiration/vision board, educate yourself, ask for help, etc
  • How will you hold yourself accountable?
  • In what way can you measure your success?
    • Monthly or weekly check-in’s, weigh-in’s, goal tracker, etc.

A support system is an important part to any journey! Join our group on Facebook for more inspiration and a positive group of people all doing their best!

5 Ways to Improve Your Health At Bedtime

by: Danielle Ternyila

What’s the number one thing everyone tells you to do when you’re sick? What do you take a whole day to do when you’re sore from working out? You rest!

Your mind and body need to rest on a regular nightly basis to recharge. Whether or not you sleep well majorly impacts your mental and physical health, so why wouldn’t you want to get all the rest you can get? Let’s talk about some ways to get the best rest just before you go to bed. A lot of things can feel like they’re in the way of getting your in some deep sleep, especially when it comes down to time management, but nothing should be more important than your health.

When you get a good night’s sleep, and I’m talking about a deep slumber to really rejuvenate your soul, you’ll boost your immune system which fights to protect you from colds and flus, reduce production of stress hormones that can even impact your heart health, improve your productivity and performance, maintain your appetite by preventing overeating, and so much more. We all know sleep is important, so we are more often left wondering, how can I get better sleep?

There’s a few ways to improve the quality of your sleep and make sure you’re getting everything out of it that you should. These are steps you can take for the best sleep. A lot of it boils down to breaking bad habits at bedtime, and yes even adults need a bedtime!

Shut the Screens Down

Before you get to bed, take the time to turn it all down, and that means the TV, the lights, and even your phone. We sleep in the dark, and that alerts our brains to start shutting things down and preparing for sleep.

If you’re usually scrolling your phone before bed because you can’t fall asleep, do you think instead you might not fall asleep because you’re scrolling your phone?

Studies have shown staring at the bright lights, especially a phone screen no more than an arm’s length from your eyes, watching flashing lights across your eyes and listening to loud sounds that all keep your brain alert and highly engaged, impairs your sleep. Read a book, meditate, listen to quiet music, or anything else to keep your eyes off the phone for 20 minutes so your brain gets the message! Your phone has far too much content for your own good when it comes to getting ready for bed.

Set Your Bedtime

You may not get grounded anymore for staying up late, but you’re still going to pay for it. It’s recommended adults get a minimum of 7 hours a night, depending on a few factors like your age and activity level, but this should give you a good idea of what to schedule your bedtime around.

If you have to wake up for work or an event at, say, 7 AM, you should aim to be asleep by midnight the latest. Those with kids, however, already know the trick; your “bedtime” isn’t the time you should be sleeping, it’s when you start the winding down game. Give yourself time to shut down the screens, prep for your next day, get any late night tasks done, and prepare your body for some shut eye.

Try to set a schedule for a few weeks and see how you feel. If you still feel tired and sluggish after consistently getting 7 hours a night, you may want to add an extra hour to your sleep and change your bedtime.

Avoid Oversleeping

Just like you shouldn’t get too little, you also shouldn’t get too much sleep! Oversleeping can have just as negative an impact on your overall health. Have you ever slept the day away on a weekend and woke up feeling even more tired? Your body is tired from sleeping, just like overcharging your phone can slow it down. Based on recommendations for adults to sleep 7-9 hours a night, I don’t set my alarm any later than that.

This is also not only important for your nightly slumbers but naps too! A truly beneficial and restful nap should last between 20 minutes to an hour and a half, but set your alarm for 90 minutes or you will feel especially groggy waking up. It may feel too short, but any longer and you’ll fall into your REM sleep cycle, which will cause the grogginess and fatigue when you wake up in the middle of it. A good nap happens before you fall deep asleep, a short and sweet cat nap.

Limit Beverages and Snacks Before Bed

According to majority nutritionists, you should avoid eating 3 hours before bed. It is a process to break down every meal and snack, so it only hurts you and any potential weight loss dreams you have when you don’t give your body the right amount of time to digest properly. Basically those calories you consume before bed are more likely stored as fat.

If you do allow “bedtime snacks” it can create unhealthy bad habits down the line; you’ll eat your bedtime snack because you do every night, but in reality it’s extra calories you probably didn’t need. Studies have shown links between weight gain and eating before bed.

Create A Nightly Routine

Whether it’s some candles, a comforting book, or calming face mask, create a nightly routine, along with turning out the lights and shutting down screens. This comes back to preparing your body for a full night’s sleep. Relax your mind and take time for yourself before bed to unwind. Yoga and meditation can be very relaxing and easy to quiet your mind.

Replacing Insufficient Slacks With Work Pants We Really Want

by: Danielle Ternyila | Zyia Active Independent Rep

Why do women’s work pants, or most of our pants in general, not have pockets?

When you go to shop for new business casual looks to freshen your office wardrobe, do you feel like the sizes are all just lying to you? Nothing ever matches, they never fit the same from one pair to the next, or maybe they never fit right from the start but you settle on an oversized or squeezed fit to have something to wear.

I’ve longed for comfort in the office forever, and I know the problem isn’t the business casual dress code; it’s the clothing brands we limit ourselves to in the local mall to shop, and most of them aren’t thinking about you and your body when they design them. They don’t care if they dig into our stomaches to make our butts look a special way or if the pockets are just for show and never really open, or they’re only small enough for a nickel. That’s where Zyia Active comes in, with countless styles for your office attire that will actually comfort you and move with you all day!

Now that I have found a quality and reliable clothing brand I can trust, I’m excited to be a part of the company’s growth and help others feel their most confident in the workplace. Take my style quiz to start your personalized online shopping experience with me!

Everywhere Pants

These were my first purchase with this brand, and I’m still wearing the same pair years later looking good as new. There is something to be said about the incredible long lasting quality you can expect with this brand. The Everywhere Pants are a staple and are no doubt the comfortable flexible work pants you’ve been looking for. Yes, they really exist! The best part is these are women’s dress pants with 2 deep pockets!

  • Lightweight and wrinkle resistant for easy care and travel
  • No-roll flat waistband with metal tipped drawstring
  • Anti-chafe, sweat-wicking, breathable fabric for the best performance

Although worth checking out, the Everywhere Zipper Joggers! Similar to our pants but with an encased ankle cuff and stylish but functional zipper.

Perfection Joggers

Life-changing, I’d say. I never believed in joggers in the workplace until I met these, absolutely perfection! What makes these unique is the matte color to the fabric that makes them very office-friendly pants along with a gorgeous vertical seam down the front of each leg. The 2 pockets are deep enough for any phone, but are hidden well and don’t add bulk.

  • A 2.5-inch waistband and 3.5-inch ankle cuffs with an incredible 3-channel design
  • Premium matte fabric that can be dressed up or dressed down
  • Four-way stretch and sweat-wicking performance for when you’re on the move

Joggers in a Bottle 2

A silky lightweight jogger is all you need to feel comfortable and classy, especially in the sleek black color of our Joggers in a Bottle 2. Unlike some other jogger styles, there’s no drawstring, just a loose-fitted but flattering fit around your waist that flows down to a wide cuff around the ankles.

  • From the top, a soft, no-roll flat waistband with a thin encased elastic to keep them in place
  • To the bottom, a 4.5-inch wide and smooth ankle cuff
  • A relaxed and slouchy fit with a premium silky material you’ll never want to stop wearing

Real Tips for Online Dating Your Friends Should Tell You: Protect Yourself

by: Danielle Ternyila

Social media has completely revolutionized the dating game with apps like Tinder, Hinge, and Bumble, for better or for worse. While one could weigh both sides, the pros and cons, I don’t think it matters at this point; dating apps are here to stay, and I personally wouldn’t have it any other way. We do everything on our phones today anyway, from wishing friend’s birthdays and announcing graduations.

Full disclosure, I found my love on Bumble in 2019, so while I may be a big supporter of online dating, it’s also been a long time since I downloaded these apps myself. That said, I have some tips to keep in mind to protect yourself and your safety as you indulge in the world of online dating. After all, we grew up on “Don’t talk to strangers on the internet.”

If you choose to download a dating app, take precaution. These tips are here to help you learn how to navigate this online dating world and the cautions you should take. Be smart, and be safe!

#1 – Meet in a Public Place

I hope I don’t really have to tell you not to invite a stranger into your home, but you should always be meeting in public places, like a restaurant, Starbucks, or even your local trivia night. No matter how long you may have been talking to someone on your dating apps and despite how well you think you know them, DO NOT meet them in a private place and put yourself in a potentially difficult or dangerous situation.

My top recommendation would be your local coffee shop or an entertaining dinner, whether there is a band playing, a jukebox to mess around with, or sports TVs. I’d avoid bars and alcohol for obvious safety reasons, but a restaurant with some energy can give you something to talk about and keep the mood light.

#2 – Share Your Location With Someone You Trust

Whether it’s your mom, your best friend, or your cousin, keep someone in the know of what’s going on with you and your dating apps, by either texting them your planned whereabouts for an upcoming date or simply “sharing” your location from your phone. You don’t have to involve them in every detail, but someone should know the name of the person you’re talking to, where you’re meeting, and what time to hear from you again after a date.

No matter what, I always sent a text before every date to my sister or a close friend, and I tell all my friends and cousins partaking in the online dating world to do the same. I didn’t always go into tons of detail every time, but someone always knew who I was seeing, where, and when. It’s better safe than sorry.

My parents are very understanding about the online dating world, which often made it easier for me than I know it did my other friends. If you aren’t comfortable telling your parents about your internet dates, I truly recommend telling a trusted friend everything, then letting your parents know you’re with that friend or that they know all the details if something happens. As much as you might not want to let them in, it’s better they know the absolute best person to call first if you don’t come home that night.

#3 – Be Mindful of Your Personal Information

It’s easier than you think for someone to track you down on the internet, especially with something as simple as a mutual photo in your dating profile and your personal social media accounts or your license plate in the background of your dating app profile pic. Pay attention to what you are sharing on your dating app profiles and how much information anyone could gain from it.

Don’t give out your personal information, blah blah blah, and all that your parents told you growing up. But more seriously, some things you might want to reconsider sharing would be your location, place of work, school, or any other places someone could find you at. After talking to someone for a few weeks on an app, you might feel comfortable sharing that you are working all alone on a shift one night; if you told them a few days earlier that you worked at the Dunkin Donuts in Citytown, they have enough information to surprise with you a visit when you’re alone, and I can’t emphasize how dangerous any situation like this could be.

A good rule of thumb for me was picking a large nearby city to say I was from instead of my actual hometown, and . I spoke generally about my job, instead speaking to the responsibilities I held and my title instead of a location and Google-able address.

#4 – Don’t Share Your Personal Social Media Accounts

I spoke early about being wary of sharing the same photos in your dating profile as you do on your personal social’s, but we should emphasize why we also should not let our potential suitors follow us online.

Unfortunately, you’re going to meet more than just 1 person online that you would want to follow you on social and you them to keep tabs or continue the flirt. However, each time you let someone new follow you, you’re making yourself more vulnerable. Again, they will have access to so much information with that alone, along with a username you probably use across multiple accounts, and when things go south (because they so easily can and will), there’s the chance you don’t even remember or bother to unfriend them online.

#5 – Rushing Is a Red Flag

First off, if you feel any pressure to meet someone by a specific deadline, whether it’s a reunion or wedding, or you feel some need to check the box before a certain age, you are going into the apps under false pretenses from the start. A person is not your “quick fix” to happiness, nor should it ever be an essential accessory.

For your safety, however, you need to take your time in meeting someone, getting to know them, and introducing them to your life. How much you’re willing to share with someone depends on your comfort levels, but there is no reason to feel pressured to tell them everything within a few weeks of knowing them. If there is pressure to meet sooner, move things faster, or share more than you’re comfortable, that is a red flag. There should never be a reason that you can’t wait if it’s worth it. You have time, I promise.

Any other red flags that pop up or make you question anything should signal to you that you need to stop and reevaluate the situation. Your time is too valuable to waste it on second, third, and regrettable chances, and don’t let anyone lead you to believe otherwise. You deserve only the best, so make that your priority.

Living Without Regrets, Including an Abusive Ex

by: Danielle Ternyila

There was a time in my life that I certainly felt like I could be doing better, like I could be in a better place, in better shape, even with a better a partner. My best, as hard as I tried, was no where near “good enough”. Some days I couldn’t get out of bed, most I walked around an emotionally-drained robot going to work then bed again, but I could never shake the feeling like I needed something better. I needed happiness in my life.

I had this whole idea of what my life should have been like instead, blamed myself for the consequences of my own choices, and subsequently carried a lot of guilt. There was a whole support system I knew I could lean on, but I was embarrassed by the version of myself I had become. How could I return to my parents and admit to the mess I made?

These regrets mostly surrounded a naive relationship gone wrong where I let too many red flags slip by, letting the bad boyfriend feed me his excuses and blind me with seemingly innocent young love. I actually met him through church in high school and had been close friends for several years before our love story took an unexpected turn down his rabithole, but he had me convinced we’d live happily ever after, rather than blogging my how to get over an abusive ex memoir today.

While I was determined and ambitious in my early college years, my ex spent his time digging himself a hole he’d quickly suck me down too. Friends and family noticed I was no longer around much. I gained a lot of weight. I lost my drive and motivation, while he seemed to get off on cutting me down, making me feel weak, and hurting me. He knew just the right things to say to keep me from noticing just how bad it was until it was maybe “too late”.

When I lost myself during these “dark times” as my old college friends refer to it now, there was an a-ha moment when I realized just how dangerous a situation I had put myself in, fought my way out to my car, and drove home to my family. It was the hardest decision for me at the time, and it was one I had tried to make countless times before, for fear of being alone or what he might do to me if I tried to run. On this one and final night with him, however, I decided I’d rather be alone than be the girl he beats down to feel high, and I rathered face the humility of having let it go on so far and ask my family and friends for help and safety.

That decision felt so easy that night, but once I got out of that toxic relationship, I actually felt even more lost and barely recognized the woman in the mirror anymore. So I took it day by day to start pulling my life back on track and getting to that “better” life I had envisioned for myself, even if it meant being on my own. I wanted happiness, and I was determined to find that for myself.

I had to do a lot of work on my mental health again, and the biggest thing I learned was to just do my best, taking it day by day; some days you’ll wake up on the right side of the bed, and on others you may need to sleep in and cry it out a little. I didn’t pass every course during the unfortunate semester aligning with the demise of my dangerous love affair, but I made it through some of those classes with a passing grade, which was the best I could do at the time. The following semester, feeling lighter without an angry controlling man with a drinking problem in tow, I doubled my course load to graduate with my class and old friends, and with time to study abroad too, because that was the best I could do. This makes me proud, knowing I have done my best and continue to.

If you do just your best, then no matter the outcomes, you will feel confident in that you did everything you could, and when things seem to go so wrong like losing a job or being dragged down someone else’s destructive path, there is still a lesson to be learned that will help you grow and do better next time. I learned my worth and who truly deserved my attention; I learned how strong I am, and I used this to skyrocket myself into the next and best version of myself, focusing all of my time on myself, my health, and my needs before anyone else’s. With that, I can’t say I regret any if the darkest parts of my past because they made me the person I am today, and I’ve just been doing my best since.

It’s too easy to get caught up comparing ourselves to where we should be or how our lives should feel based on what we see online and around us, but the only actual measurement of your success is the growth from where you were yesterday and where you are today.

By doing just my best and holding myself accountable only to what I can do, I hold no regrets when I look back. I don’t compare myself to others or the idea of where I should be because I know I am doing my best in my life, my career, my family, my business, and my love life. Be the best version of yourself by waking up every day with the confidence that you are going to do your best. When you are doing your best, you won’t have any regrets.

The Weightloss Trick the Health Industry Hides Well

by: Danielle Ternyila

There are so countless diets and weight-loss programs that promise you the best results, but they all have the same bottom-line: it only works if you do. Don’t you think it’s odd that there has yet to be a magic weight-loss fix that doesn’t have this clause?

The secret is out! Commitment, discipline, dedication… Mindset is the trick to losing weight, and you have more than enough tools to do it. If you want to see results, the biggest challenge you face is your mind. It doesn’t want to do new or hard things. Your brain likes routine, pattern, and all the addictive junk food chemicals you eat because that’s easy and what it knows, but that’s not what you want; you want results and change.

Losing weight is hard, and I know that because I did it. I lost 60 lbs in a year but that was not without 100% dedication to getting healthy in 2017. I was tired of the health issues I was already dealing with, and if I could at least be healthy and avoid as much additional illnesses as I could, I was finally willing to do that. By the time I powered through, I began seeing improvements in my health; I suffered plantar fasciitis that made it hard to stand and walk, but that has not been an issue in such a long time now!

The mindset was a constant struggle, but I knew that would be the biggest battle. I had to remind myself every day and change the way I thought about my health. Gym visits are as important as work meetings. Junk food cravings that last 20 minutes aren’t worth it. I learned how to detect the excuses I’d make for myself, like not having time, lacking healthy options, not sleeping well, feeling crampy, and so on… Some days I showed up at the gym for a 10 minute ride on the bike, but I was still committed and didn’t give up. On days when I was sick, I did squats at home because I won’t give up on myself. It was a decision I had to make for myself and must continue to decide on every day.

The funny part, if you have a twisted sense of humor, is the correlation between our physical and mental health. When we are doing better physically in good shape and good health, we also feel better mentally. Exercise alone is known to improve so many parts of our health and lessen the likelihood of disease, but the most astounding change I found in losing my weight and creating a healthier lifestyle was the instrumental impact on my anxiety and depression. Prioritizing my health was important to me because I wanted to manage my health as best I could; no longer experiencing chronic panic attacks and sleepless nights has been the greatest gift of all that came from my journey.

If I had known the secret was believing in myself a few years earlier, I could have avoided some serious injuries and rough times. If you have been failing different diets or new fitness routines over and over, start work on your mindset. Inspire and motivate yourself daily, keep your goals and dreams top of mind, and do not go easy on yourself when you wake up wanting to quit. Show up, even if it’s the most half-assed workout of your life. Consistency is key!

Just Your Best Facebook group is open to new friends who want to meet like-minded individuals ready to change their mindset and conquer their health goals. Feel free to pop in and be a fly on the wall or jump into the conversations and inspiration!

How to Succeed: Planning, Ideas for Unique New Year’s Resolutions

by: Danielle Ternyila

If you’re doing things right, you’re starting the new year off with a resolution and the decision to stay determined towards your goals for the next 365 days. A resolution can be a lot of things, whether it’s a very specific goal, picking up a new habit or kicking an old one. However, you need to enter the year prepared to achieve all of these goals you’re setting for yourself.

We have compiled some of the most unique and challenging New Year’s resolutions to improve your self-care and create balance in your life and home. To stay on track throughout the year, we also have a Facebook empowerment group to inspire and motivate each other in our community of positive, encouraging, and supportive online friends. It’s meant to help us lift each other up on all of our own journeys towards happiness, health and success.

Over the years I’ve heard some really awesome New Year Resolutions, tried some myself, and have some tips to share on getting through them. Remember, it only takes 21 days to make a habit, so the first month is going to be the hardest. Knowing that, prepare yourself for success and don’t be the one who gives up a few weeks in.

#1 – Make the Bed Every Morning

Learn discipline and it pays off. By making your bed each morning, you are doing several things to positively impact your mental health. As soon as you wake up in the morning and make that bed, you’ve accomplished your first goal or task for the day! That rewarding feeling will set the tone for your whole day, making you more productive, and by the time you’re home and getting ready to rest, you’ll enjoy a better and deeper sleep. Talk about waking in on the RIGHT side of the bed!

This is a really easy resolution for the new year, and it is primarily focused on discipline and consistency. At first the hardest part will be making a habit out of it, so prepare yourself by hanging a reminder next to your bed or setting one on your phone just after your alarm.

#2 – Never Go To Bed With A Messy Kitchen

Similar to making your bed every morning, this is something you will learn to appreciate quickly if you aren’t one who does this already. Be your most prepared for the next day, starting with a clean sink to fill up your coffee pot in the morning and a tidy counter for prepping your breakfast. It will give you a sense of accomplishment before heading off to bed and reduce your stress levels throughout the day, knowing you are not behind and have a clean kitchen to work with from the get-go.

Make it a point every night this year to clean out the sink, whether you do your dishes all together to get it done or you toss them in the dishwasher overnight. Wipe down the counters and put away all the stuff that piled up throughout the day on your counters. Don’t forget to set reminders for yourself in the beginning, but as time goes on, it will become habit, and you’ll feel better for it.

#3 – Say YES to New Opportunities

With your best judgement, make it a point to say yes to every new opportunity that comes your way. Mind you, keep your health and happiness priority and do not make any reckless or dangerous situations with this “Yes” mentality. However, when someone invites you to dinner, go for it. If your colleague invites you to lunch, join them. If a recruiter reaches out and asks for a few minutes of your time, say yes, even if just to hear about something new you might not have ever heard of.

Prepare for this by being flexible and opening up your schedule, as well as your mind. You just may be invited to a restaurant you’ve never tried with an unfamiliar menu or to partake in a volleyball game you’ve never practiced for in your life. If you tend to be on a tight schedule, stick to the same old habits, or don’t socialize much, this is a great and challenging resolution for your new year. It will be hard sometimes, and you might notice your default to most invitations and opportunities is rather negative. So start answering more phone calls, responding to texts, and putting yourself out there.

#4 – Try a New Recipe Every Week

It’s great to have a solid routine, but you also don’t want to eat the same thing over and over again. Pick a foodie-friendly New Year’s Resolution by making it a point to try 1 new recipe every week. You’ll hopefully pick up a few new favorites as you go that will give you even more meals to plan for in the future when you’re tired of the same old thing.

When you do your grocery shopping, be sure to plan for the new recipes in advance. This will help prepare you so it is not such a big hassle in the week to gather ingredients. If there are ways you can prep the meal in advance too, especially if you aren’t a big cook, that will help you keep on track. One new recipe a week is pretty doable, but be sure not to set yourself up for failure by thinking you can cook something new every night, or waiting around until the weekend!

#5 – Get In Shape/Lose Weight

This weight-loss resolution can be tricky, so it is especially important to plan ahead for this one and be careful how you set your goals. This is an incredible resolution to plan for, and I’m so excited for you if this is the journey you are finally choosing to take, or at least to finally make it a priority. It can be a challenging and daunting task, which requires endless discipline all year-round.

Joining a gym is a simple first step, but make sure you’re joining one you will like, based on the available equipment, hours, location, and community. Visit it a few times, scope out the drive and see what times of day will be best for you. Also, don’t be intimidated by how busy it might be at first. Sadly, many of those will drop out over the first few weeks, which should serve as more purpose for you. You aren’t going to quit this time. You’ve got this!

Weight-loss isn’t just about the gym though; a major part is diet and nutrition, so prepare for that too. Make realistic changes, don’t change a lot immediately, and forgive yourself on the days it doesn’t go right to plan. There’s a lot more tips on how to prepare yourself for your weightloss journey on the blog, too.

#6 – Do Not Apologize

We spend more time than we should apologizing when we should be thanking people instead, accepting feedback, or appreciating something new. Take the time next year with this resolution to take note of this in yourself. Whenever you find yourself saying sorry, ask yourself what else you could say instead, then do that. If an apology slips out, just reflect on how you could have handled it differently.

We are all all imperfect people, but the important thing is to learn from our mistakes. Accept that you can make mistakes and keep moving forward. Be more thoughtful in these moments when you feel an apology is due. Use more words than “sorry” to demonstrate your growth and self-confidence in any situation where you may feel feel blame.

#7 – Daily Acts of Kindness

I’m a strong believer in what goes around comes around, and so a year of kindness is never a bad idea; it would be especially fun to do with the kids and challenge them to find a random act every day. Of course, it also will positively impact your view of the world around you, your mental health, and your community. We can only hope that every day this act of kindness is paid forward.

This resolution can be accomplished by donating your change in the tin at the register, holding the door for someone a bit further behind on a rainy day, or even complimenting someone on social media. An Act of Kindness a day will make you feel greater than any other resolution could. It is easy to accomplish when you set your mind to it, and you’ll never regret any of these acts.

A Shopping Spree Under the Tree: Gift Cards That Aren’t Lame

by: Danielle Ternyila

A gift certificate may not feel very genuine, but when there’s thought put into it, you’ll be the talk of the season, if at least to the gift card recipient! When you don’t know what exactly to get someone, it can be so easy to just hop over to your local convenience store for a Visa or big-chain gift card. Instead, be more thoughtful in your decision, even if it’s kind of last minute!

In reality, the cash gift cards you typically grab when you wait until the last minute are going toward gas, a grocery trip, or dinner out for one forgettable night. The perfect present should remind someone you are thinking of them, and so your gift certificate selection should reflect that, too. If you know your recipient has been itching to redecorate, it’d be thoughtful to get them a gift certificate to a home store so they could treat themselves to something of their choice. You also eliminate the chance they’ll have to go wait in line to return something you tried picking out instead that doesn’t match their aesthetic or fit right.

Danielle Ternyila | Zyia Active Independent Rep, repping from the gym to the office, the airport, and back for the holidays

If you aren’t sure what your recipient would really like under the tree, consider introducing them to a new brand to treat themselves on something they ordinarily wouldn’t have. Everyone loves to be spoiled sometimes, and a new pair of pants or fresh blouse can be the perfect little gift, so long as it’s in the form of a gift certificate so they can pick exactly what they want!

Here’s a few people who might be on your shopping list to consider a Zyia Active gift certificate for, and the reasons it could make your gift the most unique and special this year, even if it’s last minute! As your Zyia Active Independent Rep, I’ll make sure they get the most perfect piece and know who to thank when they’re done using your gift certificate.

  • Your Neighbor, the Busy Mom, Your In-Laws, and the Teachers…
  • To Your Friend Who Lost Weight This Year
  • To the Friend With Big Dreams to Lose Weight Next Year
  • For the Professional One on the Go or Always in the Office…
  • Your College Kids and Grandkids
  • The Nurses in Your Life

Zyia Active is an active lifestyle brand that serves every body from women and men to juniors and kids. This versatile collection of active and athleisure wear help me go from the gym to the office, a flight to a corporate meeting, and date night to Disney World. With countless styles sizing from 2XS to 4XL, there is something for everybody’s needs and cover way more than just the basic wardrobe essentials.

This eco-friendly, versatile, quality brand supports women around the world who run their own businesses, whether it is a part time side hustle like my own, a full time gig, or just a title for personal deals. As your rep, I’m not only here to help you buy your gift certificate and print it out. I’m your shopping buddy and personal stylist! When your recipient wants to claim their gift card, I’m available to help them with sizing and finding the best fit, and any potential returns/exchanges that come up. You aren’t giving just a gift certificate, but a shopping experience, to say the least.

Give a gift they might not have ever gotten for themselves.

Gift Certificates available

Maybe you are unsure what to buy someone who goes to the gym often and loves working out. It’d be tricky to buy them workout equipment, and even more risky to attempt buying gym clothes for someone else. A gift certificate to a fitness-inspired business that allows the recipient to pick their own goodies could be a unique and genuine present for that special someone.

To someone who doesn’t treat themselves enough during the year, someone who has gone through a weightloss transformation, or the busy bee in your life who is always on the go, introduce them to a new brand with a gift certificate to shop the boutique online and choose what they like or want most! Get them something they weren’t expecting. Give a gift they might not have ever gotten for themselves.

We offer gift certificate options online, and as your Independent Representative, I can personally provide a printable or digital copy of the gift certificate with the shopping code to make your life easier upon request.

Let me know the details for a custom card, print it at home or at a local printer, and watch their face light up this Christmas when they see you bought them a Shopping Spree!

What better gift than the gift of shopping? Purchase gift certificates before you forget, and have the code emailed to you so your gift is ready to go for the holiday.

Maintain Your Diet During the Holidays With Moderation

by: Danielle Ternyila

Moderation is your health hack for the holidays if that’s what you’re looking for. That is the most important trick to staying healthy throughout the holidays and across all the gatherings and get-togethers filled with homemade meals and baked treats.

People get so caught up in trying to stick to their diets and programs during the holidays, and even worse, you end up feeling so guilty when you cave or stray just a little from the usual. You can’t lose weight or stay healthy with a negative attitude, and so it’s especially important to forgive yourself and indulge in moderation instead. Allow yourself to take a break and live in the moment, enjoying all the corn bread pudding, stuffing, and cookies you deserve to enjoy!

Just indulge in moderation. Think if it as a cheat meal and not a cheat day or even month. You don’t want to set yourself back or make yourself sick, which is easy to do when eating unique seasonal meals or overindulging. If you don’t normally eat a lot of sugar, dairy, gluten, or other things you find on your table on these special days, your body isn’t necessarily going to appreciate the overindulgence.

My normal diet is pretty simple and nutritious. I don’t eat much gluten because it causes nausea and bloating for me, and I am also lactose intolerant, so cheese is not usually in my fridge either, as 2 examples. However, I can’t make it through the holidays without my family’s stuffing or all the homemade cookies! Instead I make my choices on the buffet line cautiously. I choose vegetables and steer clear of anything that’s not worth breaking the diet for, and help myself to small portions of my few favorites to enjoy.

I’m still able to enjoy the things I look forward to all year, but I keep it balanced and light so that I don’t wake up the next day with a food hangover, as I like to call them. It’s also never a bad idea to offer bringing a dish of your own, so you can have a healthy alternative guaranteed at the table; for smaller get-togethers with friends as we count down to the New Year, I’ll be baking my own vegan chocolate chip cookies for exactly that reason!

Eat in moderation. Listen to your body, allow it time to digest your meal before you go in for seconds. A fun little trick is using a smaller dish for your food so your plate looks more full than it is, and don’t forget you have 20 minutes until your stomach sends those signals up to your brain that you are full, so eat slow and enjoy the meal.

What meal or recipes do you look forward to most at the holidays, and how do you fit it into your diet?

Let’s talk about it in the Empowerment group!
